Mozambique, prone to floods...
Mozambique is a country vulnerable to disasters like floods, cyclones and droughts. These events are repeated annually. In this context government and partners have initiated activities to reduce the impact of these disasters, creating a local capacity for Risk Management and Early Warning System.
Since July 2005 the German cooperation supports the establishment and implementation of a pre-warning system in the Buzi River - SIDPABB - and the focus in the transfer of responsibilities to Mozambican civil society.
Nine municipalities in the lower Búzi watershed participate in precaution and evacuation measures developed by SIDPABB. SIDPABB is divided into three parts:
a) Data assessment
b) Data analysis
c) Risk Management Committee.
During the cyclone Favio in February 2007 the SIDPABB worked and showed efficiency.
