Time series

Hydrological time series has some special characteristics:

• hydrological years start in different months according to the hydrological regime of specific countries or regions. The hydrological year in Germany starts on first November and in Brazil on first October.

• hydrological days start in the morning at the first manual reading of hydro-meteorological data, e.g., in Germany at 07:30

• hydrological time series are labeled differently in different countries or products. For example, the hourly precipitation depth at 15.02.2000 09:00 is from:

  • 15.02.2000 09:00 to 16.02.2000 10:00 for left labeled data like in Germany
  • 15.02.2000 08:00 to 15.02.2000 09:00 for right labeled data like in Brazil
  • 15.02.2000 08:30 to 15.02.2000 09:30 for centered labeled like some satellite products

• hydrological analysis is performed at different aggregation levels, from minutely for extreme value analysis to yearly for water balance
